Franklin to 96th
I remember
I don’t remember: how
each foot straddled the sky divide on
either side of the extremes.
The rumble, the snares,
the imposed ritual,
the blessing where
I learned the dead stare.
Swallow you whole; hold close the invisible.
Nod your head, mouth the words.
Didn’t flinch when you glanced back.
I know that Looney Tunes T-shirt was a three for
ten sourced from the
numbers beyond a hundred.
Then switch
to the lipstick and blue jeans and scuffed leather
jacket. How could I be wrong?
Black hair framed the ding-dongs.
What now can impose?
I wish I rode with my ghost.
Restore the imagination painting
sketched in pencil,
the technicolor sprayed
just so it glows.
So vivid.
