So slip away
October 5, 2024 · Poem 107 of 112
It's okay to
Slip out at night,
Basketball in hand,
And scale the fence
To the court beside the highway.
Run until your hands
Are stained with soot and dirt,
And your body glistens with sweat
Under the amber glow of sodium lights.
It's okay to sneak out past midnight
At summer camp, to lie
On the cool grass,
Gazing up at a million glittering diamonds
Strewn across the black velvet sky.
You may never find a better meditation
In all your life.
So slip away, whenever you can.
