The unexpected voice only sounds familiar

The unexpected voice only sounds familiar
because it rings through the darkness
like the choice—the choice that should have killed you.
You always recognize the Truth,
for it stirs the mire and alights with fire
the soul within.
Can you turn and grab hold
of the horns in the thicket
and drag him across the pavement,
and watch his eyes go wide in amazement
as you both recognize each other—
like twins revisiting the sameness and uniqueness—
mirrored, cubistic, humanistic—
beauty and bleakness?
The crushing weight that made you stumble
can be shed, but only by stepping and falling,
bleeding, crawling.
The rage that blinds you;
the crimes behind you.
The times you've sinned,
the divine within
live together within us—
the alchemy of heaven.
